Dr Morvyn Nyakudya

(Dean, School of Graduate Studies)

Dr Morvyn N. Nyakudya is the Dean for School of Graduate Studies and Research. He holds the following degrees: (1) Bachelor of Science Mathematics and Computer Science, (2) Bachelor of Science Honours in Mathematics, (3) Bachelor of Science Honours in Computer Science, (4) Master of Business Administration from the University of Zimbabwe; (5) Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration from the North West University as well as a (6) Certificate for Vocational and Educational Training from BA ISAGO University. 

Dr Nyakudya has over 20 years of teaching experience at the following universities: (1) University of Botswana, (2) Botswana Open University and (3) BA ISAGO University teaching courses which include, among others, Business Statistics, Business Mathematics, Quantitative Analysis, Total Quality Management, Operations Research, Operations Management, Financial Mathematics, Project management, Purchasing and Materials Management, Data Communications and Business Information Systems.

He has held several administrative functions, among which are,  (1) Head of Department Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science, (2) Senior Lecturer Quantitative Programmes, (3) Acting Dean School of Graduate Studies and Research, (4) Programmes Manager and (5) Dean in the School of Graduate Studies and Research, the post that he currently holds.

In non-academic roles, Dr Nyakudya has worked as as Information and Communications Technology (ICT) expert. He worked for fifteen months from 1 January 1986 to 30 April 1987 as a Computer Programmer at the Zimbabwe Iron and Steel Company. From May 1987 to September 2000, Dr Nyakudya held posts if Senior Computer Programmer, Analyst Programmer, Assistant MIS Manager and MIS Manager. In October 2000, he moved to the Zimbabwe Open University as MIS Manager, a post he held until 30 July 2003.

On 1 August 2003, Dr Nyakudya started working in the ICT Department at the University of Botswana where he later engaged in parttime teaching. On 1 August 2007, he joined academia and has been a Lecturer since then.

Dr Nyakudya is involved in research and publication as well as writing modules. To this effect, he has published extensively under his main research interests, among others, Information Communication Technology, Human Resources Management, Total Quality Management, Open Source Software, Recommender Systems, Mathematics Anxiety, Entrepreneurship, Research Methods and Green Computing. He has currently published a book, Mathematics Made Simple: The Tutor which has found its way on Amazon.com as well as other platforms. He has the enthusiasm to solve the problem of mathematics anxiety which, through his teaching experience, has been found to be quite prevalent in Botswana.

Dr Nyakudya has written the following modules being used in Universities in Botswana: (1) The Tutor: Mathematics and Statistics (2018) Botswana Open University, (2) Descriptive Statistics (2019), (3) Inferential and Descriptive for Botswana Open University and (4) Quantitative Analysis.

Dr Nyakudya has also held a position of External Examiner with University of South Africa (UNISA), Vaal University of Technology (VUT), Botswana Open University (BOU) and VAAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY for Masters and Doctoral Theses.
